The Story
This is a joint review from Matt of Hops Geek News and Megan from the Vigilante Vibes Podcast!
Matt – Things have finally come to a head and it is so satisfying seeing Lex Luthor’s victory be so short lived. We see Superman and Darkseid at the height of their powers in a way that has never been done before in the DC Universe. Superman is King Omega and levels up which brings about a fun battle between the two. Snyder does an excellent job bringing in ideas and adding depth without making the story feel too convoluted at any point. The way this story wraps up leaves us a little bit of a teaser for what is coming with the next installment and perks our ears up a bit too.

Megan – In what started with a huge melee made up of some of the most iconic characters of the DC Universe has brought us to the final fight. In the last issue, the winner of the tournament was Lex Luthor, which was a huge surprise. Now, in DC K.O. #5, he’s expected to fight for his crown but that’s not what the focus is of the story. Pieces have been aligning behind the scenes, timelines have been created, and plans have been put into action. Leading up to the biggest fight of the entire event, DC K.O. #5 will keep you on the edge of your seat and will keep your eyes locked into the pages of the comic. Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson leave the story off on an ominous note that has me very excited to see what’s next with the aftermath of the DC K.O. event.
The Art
Matt – I honestly do not know how this art team does it. These splash pages are packed to the brim of action from every angle and the amount of detail in the lines and every zig zag or punch is on there. At no point did any of these sequences lack in detail which blows my mind. The way the colors add in and allow these moments to truly speak for themselves and feel powerful as well shows the love and dedication to the craft that this team has.
Megan – DC K.O. #5 has so many things to love about it and the art is at the top of the list. With artists like Javi Fernandez, Xermanico, and Wes Craig on the creative team, you’re guaranteed a lot of gorgeous looks throughout the comic. In the comic, there are some panels that are nothing short of stunning with gorgeous powersets beign on full display and a beautiful mixture of details and abstract art.
Alejandro Sánchez brings a huge amount of vibrancy to the pages of DC K.O. #5, with a great juxtaposition of contrasting colors. Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou is able to bring power to the words of the characters, giving the story even more depth. Throughout the comic, you’re reminded time and time again of these artist’s incredible talents while they’re on full display.
Final Thoughts
Matt -10/10 DC K.O. #5 delivers the epic ending capping off an incredible tournament that was full of jaw-dropping moments and clever ideas. The team poured their heart and soul into this and it shows in every single panel.
