The Stories
Wonder Woman: Black & Gold 2026 Special #1 is made up of four different stories about the woman of the hour, Wonder Woman. In each story, there’s a new tone, a new energy, a new appreciation for Wonder Woman. In the first story, Decent Docent, we get a perspective of a young girl who woman a contest and her prize was that she got to meet her hero, Diana, AKA Wonder Woman. Unfortunately, Diana was delayed multiple times, but the young girl graciously waited to meet her hero who she said would be her new best friend. In that story written by Tom King, you get to see what Wonder Woman truly means to the young girl, which was pure love and admiration.
In the second story, Last Flight, written by Alyssa Wong, Diana is on a mission to deliver a paper plane to the love of her life, Steve Trevor. However, Steve isn’t alive, so Diana takes a trip to the Spirit World. Steve always promised he would make his way back to her, so Diana is full of hope going into the dark and eerie underworld full of spirits.

In the third story, The Truth Unreal, written by Steve Orlando, Diana is undercover to expose a cult leader who’s feeding his following nothing but lies and fake promises. The evil man, who’s taking advantage of his worshippers, maybe has met his match when it comes to Diana. Diana is prepared to teach him a lesson on truth, whether he’s ready to learn or not.
In the final story, Peach Thief, written by Jordie Bellaire, we see a young Diana going on a mission all on her own. Her mission? To search for the golden peach thief! In this story, we get to see just how motivated and headstrong Diana was from a young age, pulling out all the stops she can to solve the mystery.
Each story has its own tone, its own story, and pays tribute to Wonder Woman in the most wonderful of ways. The writers showcased all the amazing traits that makes Wonder Woman the superhero she is. There’s heart in every story, and each leaves you with a new appreciation for great Wonder Woman.
The Art
There’s such a beautiful difference of art style in each story that perfectly set the tone. The first story is dripping with gold while being told from the perspective of a child. The artwork is larger than life while showing Diana fighting crime, then minimizes itself back to a more muted setting as we’re back with the child. In the second story, there’s a mystical feeling throughout the art that emphasizes the trip to the Spirit World perfectly.
In the third, there’s a sense of power in the artwork as Diana sails the sea on her way to take down the cult leader and free the worshippers. What I appreciated about this was the dark and gritty energy throughout the art, with Diana’s gold in her suit being the focal point. It was beautifully done! In the final story, there’s a more whimsical feeling throughout the art that’s perfectly handled while having a story about a young Diana. In her need to solve the mystery of the missing golden peaches, there are beautiful golden tones that juxtapose the night sky that makes each page a work of art.
Final Thoughts
This book is made with the Wonder Woman fans in mind. It’s a beautiful tribute to one of the greatest superheroes and shows a wonderful appreciation.
