Letterer: Joe Carmagna
Cover Artist: Adam Hughes

Writing

Wilson really put some great work in on this issue of Black Cat. Felicia is as charming as ever. I love the almost-continuous internal dialogue we get for Felicia in this run. Wilson continues to push the envelope with Black Cat’s fourth-wall-breaking conversations with characters. MacKay really took the idea of an internal monologue narration with Black Cat and ran with it. Wilson has picked that up beautifully with Felicia’s narrations feeling like the reader is getting a peak inside of her mind.

I really love the way Wilson uses Black Cat to give us a hilarious description of Daredevil a few pages in. We’ve seen all sorts of courtroom drama throughout the history of Marvel Comics, especially when Daredevil is involved, but the idea of Vampire Court is both hilarious and entertaining. Wilson crafts a camaraderie between Black Cat and Matt Murdock that, while a professional relationship, feels more close than a simple “I need an attorney”.

Art

The art team does a really great job on Black Cat #6. As great a storytelling device as internal monologue or narration can be, it can also become distracting if not well done. Letterer Joe Carmagna really shines in this issue. Felicia’s narrative thoughts are presented in a way that flows and is clear without distracting from the rest of the panel. With character dialogue interspersed with narrative from Felicia herself, Carmagna does a great job of ensuring readers never have to hunt for the next line of dialogue

Andres Genelot’s lines are crisp and clear with Brian Reber’s colors bringing the art to life. Reber’s colors through small but distinct choices like shading one piece of paper on the ground a little darker than the other add character and depth to Genelot’s scenes. The two work together to create scenes that feel alive while still giving putting the issue’s characters front and center.

OVERALL: 10/10

This is such an enjoyable Black Cat issue. I really like the growth I’ve seen in Felicia Hardy as a character in the last few solo series she’s had, and this creative team is continuing that great work. Wilson and team really do a fantastic job of exploring the “no good deed goes unpunished” concept in fresh, creative ways, using Felicia Hardy and Matt Murdock. The art has crisp lines and beautiful colors, and the lettering helps maintain the writer’s vision through careful control of the dialogue flow

Until next time, may your pulls be magical and your multiverse remain stable
