ABSOLUTE MARTIAN MANHUNTER #7: Martian Vision.

Published:

The White Martian is gone, and now John Jones is left heartbroken and alone with a mountain of paperwork to catch up on. However, there is an agency in Middleton out to cover up the events using mysterious UFO sightings and probings. John must handle all of this along with the Martians’ expanding abilities, from the comfort of his motel.

The Story:

Deniz is back with this heartbreaking story and picking up right where he left off. John is alone and on his own as Deniz dives into the depressing aftermath of the last issue. This story is not an upbeat one and dives into the mind of not only John but of everyone. There are moments of meta where people wander without being able to be seen or seeing which speaks volumes to the world we are living in currently. What intrigues me is how the White Martian is gone, and now there is an agency setting up fake sightings to dive into what happened. The start of this next arc is off to a promising beginning!

The Art and Letters:

Javier is back with his unique style of blending bright and vibrant rainbows in with the mundane world these two have been working to build. The symbolism is excellent as he shrouds the eyes of those who cannot see, and when John’s boss is eating, there is an incredibly unsettling and grotesque feeling as the chicken wings he devours are dripping with every color but what we would be accustomed to seeing. Hassan’s lettering steps out of the ordinary and into the weird as well, oozing through the panels and pages with vibrancy.

Final Thoughts:

Absolute Martian Manhunter #7 brings the series back, highlighting the broken pieces John and Bridget must pick up for themselves. The art is beautiful if not unsettling at times and Deniz has not missed a beat!
