The Story

After the incredible event of One World Under Doom, we now see the aftermath of Doom’s death. If you’ll recall, Doom gave his own life to save his goddaughter, Valeria Richards, who was harmed in the battle of Earth’s Mightiest Hero and World Emperor Doom. Now that Doom is gone, he’s left his entire estate to Valeria, who’s still a child, a superhero, but a child nonetheless.

Of course, knowing Doom, there’s no way there wouldn’t be any after effects of his passing. So, while the world’s head is still reeling from his passing, and working their way through the conspiracy theories of it all, they’re faced with a new threat. Doombots all over the world causing mayhem in the name of Doom, and it’s up to the Fantastic Four to pick up the pieces of the damage Doom’s reign still continues to cause.

The Writing

There was so much excitement for Will of Doom #1, that this comic will be reviewed by Nerd Initiative’s Shawn and Megan!

Shawn – This feels very much like a continuation of Ryan North but feels just different enough. I really liked seeing the parental side of Sue. This seems like a great segue between One World Under Doom and the path towards Armageddon this summer.

Megan – Chip Zdarsky was able to perfectly capture what made Ryan North’s One World Under Doom so magnetic, and gave it to us in Will of Doom #1. Just when you think the dust has settled and it’s time to rebuild, Doom’s plan continues whether you liked it or not.

The Art

Shawn – Depending on how the story plays out from this point, CAFU may see that last page become an iconic part of the marvel lexicon. The art does a really good job capturing emotion that amplifies the writing. Crisp clear details in what are some chaotic and action packed scenes.

Megan – The artists were able to perfectly capture the seriousness of the comic, along with the chaos that the Doombots caused. CAFU details each page beautifully with powersets being an excellent focal point. David Curiel, the colorist of the comic does gorgeous work with playing off the muted tones and the vibrancy of each panel. Both artist’s abilities were on full display on the very last page, which has me very excited to see where that leads to.

Final Thoughts

Shawn – 8.5/10. Loved it! It’s a must pick up but outside of the last few pages it is mostly setting the path for Chip’s upcoming Armageddon event. Excited to see how the stuff with Red Hulk plays out.

Megan – 9.5/10. Will of Doom #1 continues to prove that just because Doom isn’t here doesn’t mean he can’t allow his chaos to reign!

Overall Grade – 9/10
