Catch up with Harley and Ivy: Life and Crime #1!
The Story
Harley Quinn and Ivy are retelling the story of their love, and we’re getting a good look at how Ivy saved Harley from the abusive hands of The Joker. The women are searching high and low for The Joker, all because he framed Harley and Ivy for a slew of bombings. Since the world thinks the two are to blame, Gotham’s finest have been on their tail at every turn. So, Harley and Ivy must find The Joker, avoid the police, all while starting on an uneasy foot with each other.

What I really enjoyed was seeing the two become more comfortable with each other, even if it still was on shaky grounds. Ivy doesn’t know if she’s able to truth Harley given her back and forth relationship with The Joker, and Harley is still working through her feelings. There’s a sense of acceptance from Harley regarding The Joker’s treatment of her, which we love to see. Finally, someone has her back and shows her she doesn’t have to play into The Joker’s narcissistic games.
The Writing
Erica Henderson continues the high energy story of Harley and Ivy’s love story that hits so many different tones of emotion. There’s the uneasiness of the two, who don’t know if they can truth the other. There’s the anger from Harley and Ivy at The Joker’s treatment of his former flame. Speaking of The Joker, there’s also the boiling outrage from the women because they’re being blamed for the bombings. All of these emotions are perfectly balanced and feel very authentic to the story and to the characters.
The Art
Erica Henderson isn’t only the writer, but also the artist of the comic. Henderson is able to perfectly match the tone of the comic to the illustrations, while having a hint of lightheartedness in the artwork. I think this shows the best in the panels in the mirror maze. While the women are looking for The Joker, there’s a cartoonish energy to the art while having a more serious tone. Along with Henderson is Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, who is the letterer of the comic. Being able to find a perfect balance of the narration from Harley and Quinn versus their character’s dialogue in the story, Otsmane-Elhaou finds an excellent flow of dialougie throughout the comic.
Final Thoughts
Harley and Ivy: Life and Crime #2 proves that the first issue was more than a good start, but a comic that tackles the hard feelings and the lightheartedness of two characters in love.
Overall Grade – 8.5/10
