The Story:

Nova has taken a job for the gangsters of the Kree/Skrull War. The job becomes personal as the trail leads to being responsible for the destruction of the Nova Corps during the Annihilation War, Ravenous!

The Writing:

Jed MacKay continues to weave a story for the Human Rocket that is drenched in the past while cruising headlong into the future. This issue is so fast-paced that by the time I got to the last page, I couldn’t believe it was over. That isn’t to say that is issue is poorly paced, quite the contrary, issue 2 ramps up the tension perfectly. The thing that I am most impressed with is Jed MacKay’s ability to keep the story moving while diving into a character’s past. Also, another highlight of the writing here is the inter-character dynamics. This is a ragtag bunch of characters that have no business working together, and it’s fantastic.

The Art:

The art in this book is just excellent. There is no other way to say it. The art and colors perfectly combine to bring this script to life. Nova is a character that really lends himself to dynamic movement, and this art team succeeds in bringing that action to life. While the art in this issue was fantastic, I do have to bring up one negative… why did you have to take away my boy’s beard? This design for Nova is so wonderful, and I loved seeing one of my favorite characters with a beard… I guess that Nova cosplay just went out the window. In all seriousness, I have no notes for this incredible art team. Excellent work all around.

Overall Grade: 10/10

This issue continues the trend set by the first, a great story that honors the past while setting up a new status quo for Nova. Fantastic writing, action-packed art, and the promise of big things to come make this one a must-read!
