*SPOILERS AHEAD*

The Story:

It is incredible how Gerry can craft this story and have Godzilla be both feared, hated, and at the same time, we feel empathy towards him. This issue shows the Marvel heroes pull out every last stop to save the planet and send Godzilla into space, and all seems happy as the team cooks up a delicious BBQ at the end. However, Gerry drops an absolute nuclear explosion on us at the very end that never in a million years did I see coming at all. Sending Godzilla to space is about the worst thing they could have done, and I don’t want to give away what is coming, but somehow it is worse for Earth than Godzilla simply rampaging about. It will be interesting to see everyone’s reaction to the final couple of pages in this book!

The Art and Letters:

The heroes finally get their time to shine as the art team delivers on the action in a lot of glorious ways. There are a couple of splash pages that are met with an array of colors and destruction, and detail from Scientronc, Jesus, and Javier. We are treated to Cap’s Shield taking full blasts from Godzilla and Magik, and Thor’s combined powers that allow us to feast in every panel. Travis brings the fun out in his lettering that makes this issue feel more like all hope is lost, and now full-on fun from the heroes in battle.

Final Thoughts:

Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #5 throws everything plus the kitchen sink at the audience in this issue, allowing us to feel how much fun this run has been at every panel and page turn. The art team delivers on the big moments, and just when you think Earth is saved, Gerry drops a bomb in the epilogue of this story, setting the stage for something massive!

Overall Grade: 10/10
