The Story

When Harley Quinn was taken into custody alongside Gunbunny and Mayfly, the three were put into the same cell, which is a major misstep in the cop’s work. Remaining peaceful didn’t last long for the three as Harley knows just what strings to pull to get under someone’s skin.

Harley tells the two besties her thoughts on friendship, which is that friendship sucks, plain and simple. Of course, Gunbunny and Mayfly take this to heart, causing a fight between the three. Grabbing the attention of the nearest police officer, Harley causes a distraction that leads her to be able to escape.

Once she’s out, she runs into Fire and Ice, who are more than happy to take down the villain. Being taken on two versus one makes Harley double back to the jail to bust out Mayfly and Gunbunny, under the ruse that Harley genuinely wants to be friends. Little do they know, Harley has absolutely no interest in being friends.

While all of this is going on, there’s a much darker and sinister plan happening right under Harkey’s nose. After an unexplained explosion takes place, the blame is instantly put on Harley, even though it couldn’t have been her. Right on cue, a mysterious figure arrives into town and shows up with a bang, literally.

The Art

Carlos Olivares, the artist of Harley Quinn #55, keeps the artwork as exciting as the story itself. The comic is full of a great amount of action scenes that show off Harley’s electrifying fighting style along with gorgeous powersets from her foes.

Marissa Louise handled the coloring of the comic and made each page shine and have its own time to shine. Frank Cvetkovic handled the lettering of the comic and provided a great flow of dialogue throughout the comic, pushing the story along with a good balance. Together, the artists made this comic an exciting read that you didn’t want to take your eyes away from.

Overall Grade – 8/10

Harley Quinn #55 was a fun ride all the way through, and showed off some of Harley’s best traits. She’s cunning, manipulative, a force to be reckoned with, and the comic does a great job showcasing that.
