The Story:
Matt: There are fewer things in life that I love more than a good old fashion Halloween anthology story and this is no exception. There are so many good writers and stories all weaving together that culminate in light-hearted tale of a dad just wanting to take his son trick or treating at the end.
The blend of various writing styles all work as we get to see some of the magical and darker side of DC in this which is something we do not get too often. Characters such as Raven, Plastic Man, and Swamp Thing were my standouts and I enjoyed every second of this book!
Megan: What better way to get into the spooky vibes and welcome Halloween month than celebrating the ghoulish stories of DC? There really is no better way. In DC’s Zatannic Panic #1, we get a plethora of different creepy crawly short stories all matching the spooky Halloween theme, with completely different stories and characters. Starting off strong, you have a Zatanna story and the good times keep rolling all the way to the end with fantastic catch-up comic with Ambush Bug.
With so many talented writers involved, there’s so much to love about Zatannic Panic #1. There’s something for everyone here, including the wildly different characters in their own halloween-themed stories. If you’re a spooky vibe lover like myself, then you’ll absolutely love this comic.
The Art and Letters:
Matt: The artwork is some of the most exciting and trippy parts of this anthology issue. None may be more frightening than our adventure with Plastic Man, who decides to melt children and make them a part of himself, and if that doesn’t sell you, then I don’t know what else will. There is so much detail and various splendid forms of artwork that I was in heaven panel to panel. The colors burst from each story in their own way and highlight the battles and methods of magic each user uses all at once!
Megan: There’s quite a few different art styles happening that match the tone of each story. Some stories will leave a smile on your face, and some will leave a shiver up your spine(looking at you Ouroboros: A Palindromic Batman Story), and the artists really captured that vibe.
OVERALL GRADE: 9.3
Matt: 9.5/10– DC’s Zatannic Panic is all treats with a few tricks. There is nothing better to get you into the Halloween spirit than this exciting and thrilling anthology story. And if you need a remedy for those pesky telemarketers, Wolfsbane will do the trick! MORE FROM MATT HERE!
Megan: 9.1/10 – DC’s Zatannic Panic #1 is the perfect thing to get you into the Halloween spirit! There’s something in here for everyone, and each story sets its own very high standards. MORE FROM MEGAN HERE!
