The Story:
Christos is a fan of the 80’s comics and ensures to pay homage to a lot of characters to this timeline. We are familiar with Battleworld however, he takes what we knew and tips it upside with bringing in a slew of new characters from all varieties and timelines. So far I am digging the choices made as for what characters to bring in because, I am not familiar with a lot of them. Maestro, Thor, Old Hank, and Spider-Man are some I am but, the decision to really mix things up has my attention entirely right from the get-go. The end of this issue digs inside of his mind a bit and explains why we chose what he did so if you are like me and enjoy behind the scenes action then this is for you!
The Art and Letters:
There is so much going on that artistically I am impressed with Marcus and Rachelle with how they managed their spacing and action. There are two big battle pages that are epic and full of life, which really left me in awe. Seeing the various timelines all converge into one with immense detail shows me how much love and care this story is getting and adds depth to it beyond the words lettered on the page. More than that, we got some easter eggs in this, such as one that fans who are familiar with War of the Worlds will catch onto quickly!
Final Thoughts:
Take everything you thought you knew about Battleworld and throw it out because this promises to show us heroes and villains in ways we have never seen before. The high-paced action is crafted through a clever plot paying homage to characters of old, and the art blends it perfectly. This is a must-read!
Overall Grade: 9.7/10
