Star Wars Doctor Aphra: Chaos Agent #2 – Continuing The Hunt

Published:

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the second issue of Star Wars Doctor Aphra: Chaos Agent #2 from Marvel Comics!

The unlikely pair of Luke Skywalker & Doctor Aphra are paired together again in this issue. They’re following the trail of a Luovian guantlet, an object of immense power that was once experimented on by the Empire. Luke wore it in the last issue, and could barely even control it! So just who owned it before, and where are they? Let’s jump into it!

Star Wars Doctor Aphra: Chaos Agent #2 by Cherish Chen (Writer), Gabriel Guzman (Artist), Mike Atiyeh (Color Artist), VC’s Joe Caramanga (Letterer) is a very solid follow up to the first issue that builds the story incredibly.

The Story

Cherish Chen pens a fantastic story in the follow up to the first issue. Luke & Aphra are back together in this issue, and it’s a story that reminds me a lot of an episode of Law & Order.

The majority of the issue is spent hunting down one individual on the planet Aaragau. It’s a great issue if you love mysteries and a little bit of detective work. Also the action sequences towards the end add some nice sizzle to the story overall.

I really liked seeing Luke & Aphra’s different styles come together so effectively. Aphra doesn’t have nearly as many morales as Luke does, but they still find a way to make it work.

Also the ending of this issue is great, and really made me wish the next issue was out already. It’s a twist I did NOT see coming, but man is it going to be fun to read and see how it plays out.

The Artwork

Gabriel Guzman & Michael Atiyeh are truly phenomenal in this issue, and is a tremendous compliment to the story from Cherish Chen. Everything is so vivid & detailed, and is so much more crisp that I’m used to with Star Wars comics. I particularly liked the interior scenes because it really gave off the vibe of how enclosed everything is.

Star Wars is all about the spectacle & grandiose size of it all so often, that to get to see something so small scale is a nice change of pace. It’s a pairing that works so well together, that I would LOVE to see them together more often.

FINAL POINT: Cherish Chen pens a memorable story that will leave readers wanting more. Together with phenomenal artwork from Gabriel Guzman & Michael Atiyeh, this is an issue (and a series) you won’t want to miss!

Overall Grade: 9/10
