Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I’m going to be reviewing the 2nd issue of Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories – Codebreakers from Dark Horse Comics!

Poe Dameron & BB-8 are on the hunt for a device for an item that can be used to decode First Order messages, and of course the First Order is hot on their tail. So let’s jump into it!
Star Wars Hyperspace Stories: Codebreakers #2 by Ethan Sacks (Writer), Marc Yarza (Pencils), Jose Marzan Jr (Ink), Nicola Righi (Colors), Tyler Smith & Jimmy Betancourt (Letters), Diego Galindo (Cover) is a great follow up issue to the first that still leaves you wanting more!
The Story
Ethan Sacks does a great job following up the debut issue with a story that’s equally exciting. Sacks delivers what feels like a classic Star Wars story that delivers in all aspects. And that kicks off right at the start of the issue!
We find out right at the start of the issue that the supposed device that is able to crack First Order codes isn’t a device or a code, but rather it’s a person! And that person is a kid named Cheka! Cheka has a cyborg construct on the back of his head, much like we see Lobot wear.
What follows is a fantastic story of Poe & BB-8 trying to escape with Cheka and return to the Resistance! It’s a great story, and like I said before, that builds off issue #1 incredibly well. I really wanted to know what happened next at the end, and I’m curious to see how it’s going to play out!
The Artwork
Marc Yarza, Joser Marzan Jr & Nicola Righi are all incredible with their work yet again in this issue. They do such a great job of translating Poe Dameron onto the comic page. Plus, they do such a good job bringing the action to life throughout the issue.
FINAL POINT: If you’re looking for an issue that’s fun to read & action-packed, this is the one for you! Ethan Sacks pens a tremendous story that will leave you on the edge of your seat right up to the end. That, together with the tremendous artwork from Yarza, Marzan & Righi, really pop off the page, unlike anything else I’ve seen this week. This is an issue, and a series, you should NOT pass up on!
Overall Grade: 9/10
