Ultimate Spider-Man #18 – Reunited At Last

Published:

Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the 18th issue of Ultimate Spider-Man from Marvel Comics!

Things are still in a tense point for Peter Parker & his family. They’ve been on the run for some time now, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the world is taking a nap. So let’s just jump into it!

Ultimate Spider-Man #18 by Jonathan Hickman (Writer), Marco Checchetto (Artist), Erick Arciniega (Color Artist), Cory Petit (Letterer) is a very interesting issue that’s going to be critical for the future of the series.

The Story

It’s another Jonathan Hickman story in that there isn’t that much action wise, but there’s PLENTY going on plot wise. And I really enjoyed seeing the development play out involving Gwen & Richard Parker. The stuff involving Peter & Harry was very close behind those two.

Gwen’s story is interesting because it’s such a unique twist on the story that I didn’t see coming initially, and I’m incredibly interested to see where it goes. There’s a lot of potential for some possible storylines, and I fully trust Hickman to deliver on an amazing story.

Richard’s story is great for two reasons. First, is for who it involves. The twist at the end caught me by surprise, and it really shouldn’t have. Second, for who he comes face to face with. NOTHING good ever comes when THAT character seeks you out, and Richard needs to tread VERY carefully going forward.

The Artwork

Marco Checchetto & Erick Arciniega do an awesome job with the artwork for this issue. The lines are so crisp & distinct that it gives everything a unique look to it compared to other Spider-Man comics. I really enjoyed the contrast between the desert & NYC (other than the obvious) because they do a really great job contrasting the two environments.

FINAL POINT: While there isn’t a whole lot action wise in this issue, it’s still got a lot going on in the story. That story, together with the tremendous artwork make this an issue you do NOT want to miss!

Overall Grade: 9/10
