The Story and Writing
Jeremy Adams knows the art of balancing stories that have completely different energies, which is very clear in reading Green Lantern #24. Hal Jordan and Carol Ferris are winding up a job of capturing a few mediocre villains, working together as a team. After taking the villains into custody, it’s time to bring them to jail, but something is very off about the jail.
It looks to be a rebranding measure, even renaming the jail to Sunnyside Prison Camp. Carol is starting to feel very suspicious when she gets a feeling from the emotional spectrum, and it’s confirmed that something is off when they go inside and talk to the warden. Warden Bob is much too happy and this jail has way too many amenities for something not to be going on. How are all these prisoners so happy?!
Meanwhile, Kyle Rayner, Dan Garrett, Kon-El, and Odyssey have been pulled into a far and dark side of deep space. With their ship on autopilot and having no control, they’re being pulled to this mystery location by forces unknown. Once they finally arrive, they are led by bright green arrows, which they follow without knowing where they’re going.
There’s an ominous feeling in the air as the team follow the arrows faithfully, until they reach the last one. That’s when they get more questions than answers when they’re attacked by an army of Manhunters. Surely it wasn’t the Manhunters who brought them here, so what is going on? That’s when it’s revealed who brought them here, which is a surprise to everyone.
The Art
Xermánico is the artist and the cover artist for Green Lanterns #24, both of which he absolutely nailed. Every page has so many details in each panel, with some really fantastic action scenes throughout the comic. Something I really appreciate about Xermánico is the amount of effort he puts into the facial expressions of the characters, elevating the overall emotion of each situation.
Along with Xermánico, Romulo Fajardo Jr. is also on the creative team handling the colors. Fajardo Jr. makes it his mission to make each panel more attention-grabbing than the last with his beautiful use of contrasting colors, and succeeds. What I loved about Xermánico and Fajardo Jr. working together is the two of them joining forces to make the constructs of Hal and Carol look absolutely perfect.
Final Thoughts
With the big reveal Green Lantern #24 ended on, I can honestly say I am so anxious and excited to see where this goes. Jeremy Adams knows how to leave you wanting more, and that’s precisely what he did here.
