Death of the Silver Surfer Isn’t Just a Gimmick
I know, I’ve read all of the comments. “Just another gimmick” and “We’ve already done this in Requiem” salt the message boards with dismissive comments. Maybe it’s my positive nature or just my desire for a good story, but I was excited to see this title announced. I couldn’t wait to get my eyes on the pages of Death of the Silver Surfer.
GHOST RIDER VS. GALACTUS #1 – The Purpose of the Destroyer
The opening pages had been shared on various news sites and it didn’t really wow anyone. What comes after those preview pages sets the stage for what seems to be a fascinating journey across the Marvel Comics universe and their cosmically powered characters!
The Silver Surfer Brings Peace and Passion to Life
Norrin Rad seeks to end a violent conflict on Earth. He destroys their weapons a war and leaves the humans alive and in good health. He even heals those on the brink of death. His purpose is pure and of good intention, which means that the people of authority on Earth can only see it as an affront to their nature. A high level operative with expert battle prowess and some high tech gear is sent to bring the Surfer into their custody. That obviously isn’t an easy job, but the way it all goes down was definitely not as planned!
Greg Pak and the Characters of Death of the Silver Surfer
Greg Pak does a great job of bringing the introspective aloofness to Silver Surfer that I love. He’s so innocent in nature and is only singular in purpose in most situations. The empathy he has for humanity is almost to a flaw.
Predator: Killer Of Killers Review – A “Killer” Return For The Franchise

The introduction of Kelly Koh couldn’t have gone any better. She’s established as a badass with a normal life in her debut. Of to work with the help of her Mother is almost like a kid going to school. However work for her is slaying a giant alien insect in some high tech armor! I love her fighting prowess and she actually gets the jump on the Silver Surfer, giving him all he can handle.
The Art of Death of the Silver Surfer
The artwork in Death of the Silver Surfer beautifully executed. Beautiful, awe-inspired settings and images adorn the pages and panels to invoke strong emotions. Sumit Kumar captures emotions in the physical nature of characters. Extreme close-ups, panoramic wide shots, and interesting angles help to keep the pace. It provides readers with some inspired story telling.
The color work by Frank D’Armata takes the art to a new level. From fiery action scenes to the cold loneliness of space, the colors take us into the scene and puts us in the moment. The Silver Surfer pops so well in every environment.
Overall Grade 9/10
Death of the Silver Surfer takes us on a action packed journey with powerful moments and a wholesome twist at one point. The Silver Surfer is back in Surfer fashion. There’s a beauty to the character that can be hard to pinpoint for most, but Greg Pak gets it. The art team takes the tone of the story and gives us something exciting to follow along with. You may say “Not another ‘Death of’ story!”, but I say this one has potential! What did you think?
