Absolute Green Lantern #3: The town is locked out from the rest of the world and Jon Stewart is determined to find out why they cannot break through the barrier. There are rules to what Abin Sur has brought and if Jon is not careful he may be in line for judgment.

Creative Team:

Al Ewing (WRITER) Jahnoy Lindsay (ART, COLORS, and COVER) Lucas Gattoni (LETTERS)

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

The Story:

Al slows the story down a bit in this issue as he focuses on Jon Stewart and a bit more on the fallout of Abin Sur’s arrival. The more we learn about the force field around the town the more intriguing this story becomes. Plastic can escape but, gold delivers a powerful punch. The rules were setting up are not like anything I have seen in a Green Lantern book before.

I did not expect the death at the end for such a prominent character and Al is making it known this is a very different story than has been told in the past. I am hoping we start getting answers with Hal soon and some answers more overall.

The Art and Letters:

The action sequences between Jo and Hal in this book were done in a flashy and bright manner by Jahnoy. The fight was electrifying and the colors leapt from the pages themselves. The contrast between the light and Dark continues to be captured artistically well. I also enjoy how the force field is portrayed and the way different items make it react differently on the pages. Lucas adds depth to the story with the letters and captures the feeling and tones throughout everyone’s voices.

Overall Grade: 8/10

Absolute Green Lantern #3 hits us with a shocking ending but, still leaves us with even more questions than answers. The art team is making each panel pop out visually and Al is not afraid of taking risks in this new rendition. I just hope the story starts to move a little more going forward.
