From Marvel Solicit:

“…And there came a day, unlike any other, when Doctor Doom ruled the world… and he needed an AVENGER’S team all of his own! Kristoff Vernard, son of VICTOR VON DOOM, was tasked with building the newest iteration of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes! But who are these would-be heroes? And how did they come to be the SUPERIOR AVENGERS?…”

One World Under Doom

If you have not heard, there’s a huge event happening in Marvel Comics. Doctor Doom managed to “acquire” the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme from Doctor Strange at the very end of Blood Hunt. With these new magical powers, Victor Von Doom has taken over the world. Seemingly overnight, countries rallied under Doctor’s flag.

Of course, The Avengers and the Fantastic Four have tried their best to reveal whatever schemes Doom is running. But they have been 2 steps behind the whole way. As part of Doom’s efforts to maintain control and gain public support behind him, Kristoff Vernard aka Abomination has launched the Avengers Initiative.

AVENGER’S INITIATIVE

Kristoff’s Avenger’s initiative relies on traveling to the future of this timeline where Doom’s is still the ruler and recruit heroes from the future. The goal is to further prove to the naysayers that Doom’s ways will work.

The first subject to be brought forth to the present time was not very fond of Doctor Doom. In fact, he saw Doom as his enemy and accused him of destroying everything. This was not the desired result, and Doom ended up killing the hero from the future.

NOT YOUR AVERAGE HEROES

Evidently, Victor Von Doom was not interested in a true witness of the future. Moreso like a propaganda tool. Someone that would praise his actions and serve as a voice to convince his opposition. So, Kristoff managed to recruit a team from over a hundred year into the future, they are Doom’s Superior Avengers.

The roster is composed of Killmonger, Doctor Octopus, Onslaught, Abomination, Ghost and Malekith. Although they bare the names of classic villains, they do save the day on their first outing. However, the team has an ulterior motive of their own.

HOW ABOUT THE ART?

The art on this book was surprisingly great. Kyle Hotz pencils are pretty impressive. There’s plenty of action scenes and a multitude of characters that get their individual shinning moments.

The one flashback page by Luca Maresca is a good way to contrast the different timelines of this story. Finally, the coloring by Mattia Iacono gave life to every single page.

OVERAL RATING: 8.5/10

Despite a misguided reaction from comic book readers, this is not a knockoff version of “Dark Reign Avengers“. Besides, I’m here to dispel those rumors. Because, while I do see why comic book fans might think that. There’s no other similarities outside of the assembled group of villains trope. This reads like a another hoax scheme by Doom until the very end.

When the characters reveal their real motives, that twist was enough to hook me in for issue #2. This is a must read for those who are following the ‘One World Under Doom’ story.
