The Story:
While keeping an eye on the Church of Ultron, the West Coast Avengers must track down and stop Flag-Smasher! Meanwhile, The Avengers in the Impossible City have questions about Ultron and his place on the team.
The Writing:
Gerry Duggan continues to craft his story like the master he is. This issue juggles what came before while setting up the future conflict in an exciting way. On top of that, he gives space to the real world problems that Firestar is facing. Each character interaction is wonderfully scripted and the story keeps getting more and more interesting. The growing unease of the main team of Avengers was palpable as this book progressed and the conflict of the next issue was perfectly set up.
The Art:
Danny Kim and Arthur Hesli continue to pump out great panel after great panel. The action and set pieces were wonderful, the quiet moments of emotion were well crafted, and the layout of the line work and colors blended so well together. The facial expressions on display in this book were so well done, so many feelings were perfectly conveyed wordlessly. Of course, I can’t leave out Ben Harvey’s incredibly maniacal cover. Flag-Smasher, surrounded by the broken bodies of the team with a look of insane glee is just a thing of beauty!
Overall Grade 10/10
Each issue of this series has been phenomenal, yet it somehow keeps getting better. This is my favorite book on the shelves right now by a mile. The entire creative team is putting together something special and this is a series that is not to be missed!
