NYX #7 will be a joint review written by Nerd Initiative’s Kat and Megan Nichole!

Synch

We start the issue with Synch. He’s currently walking through the city and heading to NYX HQ. Kamala welcomes Synch to Nyx’s new home. We then see everyone in the building, and it’s awesome to see.

Kamala then shows Synch around the building, and we see Prodigy trying to talk to Synch. That doesn’t quite go the way that you would expect. The conversation then turns into a fight between the 2 of them. Meanwhile, Kamala is having her own problem outside.

The Truthseeker has shown up and will not back down without a fight. This battle gets intense, and it’s exciting to see. We cut back to NYX HQ, and Synch and Psych are still going at it. The conversation then cuts to a fight between both of them.

This fight is super fun, especially with the use of color. The crowd watching this is cheering the fight on. While this is happening, we are getting to see how Kamala is getting on in her fight. We then see The Truthseeker trying to fly away, but not before Kamala stops him.

He then says that Mutants are a danger to people close to them. His scan data is then marked insufficient. The scene then shifts back to Synch and Psych, and they finally stop fighting. We then see little snippets of what happens afterward. The final scene lands on Kamala crying on the rooftops.

Now this review was too big to do alone. So myself and NI’s Brand Advisor/Host of the Viglinate Vibes podcast, Megan is helping out as well.

The Art

Kat: Enid Balam has once again done a fantastic job with the art in this book. He continues to surprise me with every issue. Plus his use of colors in the book was amazing.

Megan: I’ve found all of the installments of this run of NYX to be very appealing, but I’d say NYX #7 takes the cake. It’s all around a stunning book courtesy of Enid Balam, Raul Angulo, and Joe Sabino who gives the already exciting storyline even more of a punch. With the bright colors coming from Synch, to the powerful words coming from Prodigy, this had so much depth throughout the book.

The Writing

Kat: Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly have continued to amaze and surprise me with the writing in this book. They have taken these characters, and really found fun and interesting ways of using them. Plus, they also know how to write fight scenes.

Megan: Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing made sure that this comic had a lot of heart and it showed on every page. I really enjoyed seeing Prodigy fight for his “throne” against Synch, as I think it really cemented him in the leadership role for me.

Also, the heartbreaking moment for Kamala is something I’m really looking forward to seeing where it goes. She’s been the positive light throughout NYX for everyone on the team, and to see her breakdown was absolutely heartbreaking.

Final Scores

Overall Grade: 9.4/10

Kat: 10

Megan: 8.8

Final Thoughts

Kat: Honestly, if you still haven’t read this comic yet, go and read it. Even if you aren’t the biggest of the X-Men, this is a fresh take and approach on the mutants. Plus, you might end up finding a character you like.

Megan: I’m really enjoying this run as it’s dealt with so many different things within the story. Each issue is very different from the last and always keeps you guessing.
