Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing issue 16 of the Captain America series from J. Michael Straczynski & Marvel!
This issue is the last one from Straczynski, it’s been a fun read but all good things must come to an end. So does that series go out with a bang? Let’s jump into it and find out!
Captain America #16 by J. Michael Straczynski (writer), Carlos Magno (artist), Espen Grundetjern (color artist), VC’s Joe Caramanga (letterer) & Taurin Clarke (cover artist) is a fitting conclusion to a really good run. A solid story from start to finish, it’s an issue worth reading for all Marvel fans.
The story picks up where issue 15 left off and that’s the ongoing battle restore Broxton, Oklahoma. Captain America, Spider-Man & Thor have run into dark versions of people they know, and a huge battle has broken out.
With heavy hitters like Thor, Cap & Spider-Man the battle that takes place is definitely a memorable one. Will it go down as a top 5 fight of all time? No, but it will be one of the more memorable ones from the series. Seeing our heroes put their brains together to try to figure out how to win the battle was fun to read, because this wasn’t a fight that you could just punch your way out of it.
The issue ends happily, and it’s safe to say we won’t see any ramifications from this story. But overall I would definitely call this run from Straczynski a win.
FINAL POINT: Straczynski caps off his run with Steve Rodgers in a nice way that is a great bow on the series. It’s an issue, and a series that every Marvel fan should read at some point. It’s a story that won’t be the most memorable of all time, but it took some chances and hit some home runs in the process.
SCORE: 9.0 out of 10
