Conquest 2099 Gets a Big Brutal Finale!
This is it. Spider Woman and her allies fight Spidercide and his forces on Araneo. Dracula and his vampire horde arrives. The battle is intense and not even moons are safe from destruction! Spider Woman challenges Spidercide for leadership of the Araneon people in hopes of avoiding more genocide. Even with with Nova, Red Hulk, the X-Men, and Spider-Man on her side, things are looking bleak. When Dracula arrives with a huge missile in tow, the tide is turned, but not in a favorable way.
Dracula sets up his final offensive here!
Dracula’s anger and thirst for revenge prove to be a detriment. He doesn’t wish to just win, he wants to punish. He wants to erase Araneons from the universe. It’s his desire for complete extermination that keeps opposing forces in the way from his total and complete win in this battle. Enter the Silver Surfer. We’ve seen them go toe to toe earlier in the series and Surfer warned him of this path. Now a toll for this much death must be paid. The way everything wraps up is quite exciting and delivers a new power to the 2099 universe that could spell a huge story line in the future.
Conquest 2099 Spins a Story Beyond the End
Steve Orlando stays the course in Conquest 2099 with awesome dialogue and a ton of action! He’s created this big space epic and does a good job of sticking the landing. Everyone’s motivations serve the story in unique way. The many story threads being pulled come together in a way that strengthens this new universe for more stories to play out. The foundations of the new 2099 in strong.
The Artistic Action of Conquest 2099
Action is the name of the game in this issue of Conquest 2099. The art team received that message loud and clear! There are some dynamic and exciting panels that put us as readers onto the battlefield. The cold and ruthless colors of the Araneons contrast against the hot blooded, passionate colors of the vampire forces. Huge set pieces like the Araneon shipyard and Nova’s huge blast get the eyes excited!
Everything Points to 8/10
With the series coming to the end, issue 5 provides us with a satisfying conclusion. Steve Orlando does a fantastic job of character development and fun, dramatic dialogue. This issue does suffer a bit in the pacing department. We’re compiling a huge battle with a lot of moving parts into one book, with a lot of dialogue. However, everything that happens makes sense and gives a us closure on many levels while still leaving the door open for more!
