Dazzler #3 is a joint review written by Nerd Initiative reviewer, Kat, and yours truly, Nerd Initiative’s Brand Advisor/Ast. Editor, Megan Nichole!
The Aftermath
In Dazzler #2, we saw Alison being accused of her album being “mutant-centered” on a live stream of her interview. If that wasn’t bad enough, during her performance segment of her interview, she was mind controlled by a telepath and attacked the studio, putting her fans into danger. Now the aftermath of that includes Alison hiding from the public and having to release an apology video to her fans in a discrete location.
Alison says that these setbacks aren’t going to stop her from doing what she loves and that’s performing. She promises the watchers that her and her team will work hard to ensure the safety of those who come to her show, mutant or human.
VOTE IN THIS YEARS CHEERSIES!
That’s when Lila Cheney comes in excitedly and say their cover is blown, security has become aware that Alison and her team have taken over the penthouse. They all hightail it out of there thanks to Lila’s teleportation powers. Once they’re safe in the “tour bus”, Alison sees exactly how hard her tour is struggling. Canceled tour dates. Venues pulling out. Tickets being returned. It’s all horrible news for a popstar that just started her new tour. The worst part of it all is that they still don’t know who the mastermind is behind all of this chaos.
Alison’s next stop on her tour is Tokyo, and Wind Dancer feels she needs to take some time to rest. It seems Lila has other plans as she says there’s plenty of fun things she and Alison can do while they’re there. This made me really suspicious of Lila, as it’s pretty obvious that Alison isn’t safe out in public. I’m really interested to see if Lila has something to do with whoever is behind all of this damage done to Alison’s tour.
The Writing
Kat: Jason Loo has taken Dazzler and given her not only a compelling story, but has made her so fun as well. I get so excited to read each issue knowing that the story continues to get better issue by issue.
Megan: I love what Jason Loo is doing with Dazzler! The story is fun and full of mystery, which keeps you on your toes. I really enjoyed Dazzler #3 as you see the negatives of being a mutant popstar and how quickly Alison’s fanbase turned on her. I look forward to seeing what will happen in the fourth installment of Dazzler!
The Art
Kat: Rafael Loureiro has continued to show why his art in Dazzler is amazing. Since Issue #1, I have found myself enjoying the art so much in this comic.
Megan: The artists of Dazzler #3 have gone far and beyond in bringing the vibe of Dazzler to life. The artwork feels musical when you see Dazzler in her silver suit singing to the top of her lungs her truth as a mutant. Some of my favorite parts of this comic were the go kart race scenes with Alison and Lila. I felt they did a great job in showing how much danger they truly were in and made each hit jump off the page. The artists have done an excellent job all around with this run.
Final Thoughts
Kat: Dazzler is a character who, no matter what, is always someone who everyone likes and maybe even relates to. And her comic continues to show that she is the Shining Star Of The X-Men.
Final Score: 10
Megan: Like I said, I love what Jason Loo is doing with this Dazzler run. He’s made it fun yet very heartfelt. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Final Score: 8.9
