While the main show has ended, the spinoffs, Dead City, and Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, are going strong! Sitting in the press room for these two shows, we got some fun facts, as well as some hints of what to look forward to. Whether you’re caught up on The Walking Dead Universe, or behind, it’s safe to go forward as no walkers or spoilers will be found in this article.

Dead City

Starring Lauren Cohen as Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan. Dead City will kick off season 2 in Spring of 2025. This season Lauren Cohen got to direct an episode, in which Scott Gimple (The Walking Dead Universe Chief Content Officer) had nothing to say but praise for how well she did.

Meanwhile Morgan told those in attendance that they will be very surprised with the places Negan will go in season 2. Whether those are good or bad places, only time will tell. When he was asked about the very awkward, but sometimes necessary, relationship between Negan and Maggie, Morgan said he believes that the two have a mutual respect for each other. However, we all know Maggie (and millions of fans) will never recover from what he did to Glenn.

We also learned that while the show takes place in the big apple, much of the filming takes place in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Additionally by the end of season 2 we should all know how to turn walkers into electricity. So pay close attention, as that could come in handy when the zombie apocalypse hits in real life.

Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol

Starring Melissa McBride as Carol and Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon. Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol has already kicked off on AMC, and season 3 is in the works. While season 1 and 2 have taken place in France, we can expect a change of scenery in season 3 when the crew heads to Spain. Greg Nicotero (Executive Producer, Director, and the guy that loves talking about Zombie makeup) said both countries welcomed them with open arms. The first day the walkers showed up on set in France, they were greeted with a round of applause. Having filmed in Georgia for over a decade, this was new for everyone.

Without spoiling the beginning of season 2, they did talk briefly about Carol’s journey. Certain memories come back to her in this season. This was something they had wanted to explore, and I think something that should be explored, even more so than they already have. As the season is not yet over, I’m hopeful we’ll see more of that. Again… no spoilers.

The recipe to a successful show, comic, or movie franchise, often seems to be liking those you work with. Reedus and McBride both have nothing but nice things to say about each other, and you can see the love they have between them both on and off screen. Their relationship has been one of my favorites throughout The Walking Dead Universe, and I’m loving that they’re continuing to grow this relationship after all these years.

Check out what else happened on Day 2 at NYCC.

The Walking Dead Universe

While Daryl was never in the comics, but created solely for television, and Carol was nothing like her comic counterpart as the seasons moved along, it has been so amazing to see them both surviving and finding their place in the zombie apocalypse. The cast did hint that so long as they can, and the stories are there, they will continue. So season 4 is a definite maybe. Meanwhile, Dead City too hopes to continue to fight and live, in this walker infested world.
