Have we all recovered from the last epsiode of “The Penguin”?

Episode five sort of slows down a bit, after an interesting episode from last week. Sofia (Cristin Milioti) is regrouping after making a gas leak, killing the Falcone’s. When the police shows up, she notices her niece, Gia (Kenzie Grey) is being escorted and sent to a children’s home. It seems for a moment, it looks like Sofia feels bad for Gia leaving.  Sofia still has an eye on the prize, as she is being questioned by the chief of police. The Chief wants a sense of what happened, and Sofia does not want to talk about it further.

Meanwhile, Oz (Colin Farrell) visits Salvatore Maroni (Clancy Brown) and Nadia Maroni (Shohreh Aghadashloo). They are talking about moving product, and getting shrooms to Oz. Salvatore still doesn’t trust Oz. He is a businessman and sees an opportunity for the Maroni’s to be on top, and shut out the Falcones.  When Oz leaves, as the audience we see him slip money to the guard, so that the guard kills Salvatore.

Back to Sofia, she visits Johnny Viti (Michael Kelly) and asks for his help. Sofia wants to start fresh. Johnny starts to tell Sofia about what Sofia’s mom’s plans where to get out of this life. He explains to Sofia that her mom wanted more for Alberto and herself. Johnny said that she kept coming back to Carmine, and Johnny didn’t understand.  Sofia intends to now run the business, and she needs Johnny to help her do it.

Victor (Rhenzy Feliz) is tasked by Oz to go and check on Oz’s mother. Francis (Deirdre O’Connell) is in her bed, and Oz asked him to take her out the house. Victor takes her to a part of the city, where no one thinks about. One guy does notice Victor getting Francis into the house.

Now back to Oz, he realizes that he has to get the product from the Maroni’s. Oz had captured  Taj (Aria Shahghasemi), the Maroni’s son. When Oz meets up with Nadia (Shohreh Aghdashloo) she asks why is he drenched in water. Oz assures her that he’s fine.  When Taj finally gets to Nadia, Oz opens up the lighter. He drops it and both Taj and Nadia are catching on fire, burning to death.

In a major twist, Salvatore lives. Oz realizes that the shrooms he needed, is not enough. Salvatore calls Oz, and tells him he’s after him. Oz said “call your wife, and see if she answers.” In a later scene, Sofia ends up meeting up with Salvatore, and wanting an alliance. Sofia is not a Falcone anymore, she explains. Sofia is going by her mother’s maiden name,  Gigante. Sofia wants to take down Oz, and she wants Salvatore in on it. Salvatore agrees to join her alliance.

Sofia meets with Johnny and the rest of her crew. Sofia said she needs them to help her build her dynasty. When Johnny hears that she is dropping the Falcone name, he protests, and then he is shot dead.  Sofia gets a bag of money, and asks if the rest of the guys will join her. All of them agree, and take the money that is poured in front of them.

This episode is a major set up for the final three episodes. Both Oz and Sofia are making moves, and I’m really excited to see where they end up. Oz also finds a place during the end of the episode,  to set up his operation for the shrooms. I believe Oz better move fast, before Sofia and Salvatore are after him.

I give this episode a 8.5/10.
