FINAL THOUGHTS ON NYCC 2024 FROM THE N.I. TEAM!
Before closing the book on NYCC 2024, some of the N.I. team gave their picks for the Best of the event. Joining in on this call is Padawan J (N.I. Comics/ODPH podcast), Rich (Wrestling Night Live) and yours truly (Ken – Editor-In-Chief/ODPH Podcast)
BEST PANEL:
Pad: Star Trek Universe. The whole thing felt like a “Hall H” moment and dropped a lot of incredible news for fans. This was a must attend panel
Rich: Ghost Machine. A year after their launch and they made everyone feel like family. They also came with a lot of really good announcements.
Ken: DC ABSOLUTE/JIM LEE AND FRIENDS. DC Comics won the weekend hands down (which says a lot because Image/Ghost Machine/Skybound & Marvel had strong panels). With the new movement going on and the bombshells dropping (VERTIGO IS BACK! H2SH! ABSOLUTE MARTIAN MANHUNTER!), the buzz had fans screaming they were “All In”!
BEST INTERACTION:
Pad: There is way too many people to name. From the team at N.I. (NICK was there!!!) to the other fans in attendance. It’s always great to see so many people celebrate being a fan
Rich: There were so many awesome people we got to meet in person! I can’t say them all because I’m told that’s a cop out lol. So with that being said, I’ll limit to 3: 1. Ricardo Lopez Ortiz & Clay McCormick from Hard Style Juice (Comixology). 2 – Joey Esposito & Sean Von Gorman from The Pedestrian (Magma Comix). 3. Michael Kingston & Vampiro (Masked Republic/Massive Pulishing/Headlocked). I know that’s actually five but pairs count as one in my world.
Ken: Every creator I bumped into was great. Plus NICK WAS THERE!!!!!!
That said, meeting Gary Vaynerchuk was amazing and everything going on with VeeFriends needs to be hyped more. Plus I need to shout out some incredible people that deserve a monster THANK YOU: Pamela from Comixology/Superfan, Kat from Ghost Machine and Shannon from Skybound. All are amazing people that play a bigger role in making our comics dept. the success it has been and they deserve all the praise possible. Thanks again!
BEST EXPERIENCE:
Pad: all the shops on the show floor. There was a HUGE variety of stuff sold this year
Rich: Getting to meet and hangout with the Nerd Initiative Team. Especially Lauren & Nick who it was my first time really meeting. Dinner on Friday was an amazing team builder.
Ken: Do the 4 days in general count? If not, The Comixology showcase and Fandom 20th Birthday NYCC bash were two outstanding events. Can’t forget about seeing the G.E.O. & N.I. Team in person. As Lauren says “we’re all friends in real life now” so *cough* Matt, Megan *cough* you’re up for next year!
That’s it for NYCC 2024. A special thank you to Reed Pop, all the volunteers and creators who give their time and energy to make such an event run like clockwork and give fans a one of a kind experience.
Till next year…. IS IT OCTOBER 2025 YET?
