No rest for the wicked

Wolverine is back in the Venom War, and he’s just trying to take a load off after briefly becoming a zombiote himself. After being found by Emily and Flynn Burke, a small family he had helped a few years earlier, he was taken to their house to recuperate. But with the Venom War still going strong, how is Wolverine expected to get some peace and quiet with zombiotes running amok?

The Patriarch

Venom War: Wolverine #2 focuses a lot more on the Burke family rather than Wolverine himself, as the father to Flynn, Keene Burke, has been busy. Keene has been taking control of a group of zombiotes and created even more zombie symbiotes, and he’s on his way to find Emily and Flynn. Flynn, who hasn’t been the same since dealing with his violent father’s distasteful parenting tactics, has been struggling with anger. It’s an anger that has kept him at a distance from his mother and an anger that Wolverine knows all too well.

While Wolverine is having a heart to heart talk with Flynn, Keene is at the Baylight Cemetery forming his army of zombiotes. Keene blames Wolverine for the lack of respect the town and his former family has for him. Keene plans to use these zombie symbiotes to reclaim his hierarchy over the town and over his family.

The Writing and Art

Venom War: Wolverine #2 was an entertaining read with a great couple of cameos thrown in. It was interesting to get a look into Flynn’s trauma and what he’s struggling with when it comes to his father. There were some unanswered questions about Keene and his leadership of the zombiotes that I would’ve liked answered, so I’m looking forward to reading more. I am especially interested in what’ll happen in the next installment when we were left with that twist at the very end.

The artwork of Venom War: Wolverine #2 was really well done and fit the story nicely. It being a darker comic, it worked really well with the darker colors and the horror-esque zombiotes. The zombiotes looked absolutely terrifying which added even more of the horror genre feelings to the comic.

All in all, I’d say it was a fun read with great continuity in Wolverine’s perspective of the Venom War. I also have to say that the cameos that showed up in the comic was a pleasant surprise.
