Head to Head

Eddie and Dylan are at each other’s throat over who gets to be the host to Venom, and even Spider-Man has thrown his hat in the ring into the ring. With so much at stake, Eddie and Bedlam absorbed their symbiote allies to increase their power. This caused Dylan to merge with Sleeper and Flexo to be able to take on Eddie and his symbiote powers.

Dylan tells Eddie and Bedlam to stand down, which Eddie is willing to do, but Bedlam refuses. Eddie then departs from Bedlam stating “my son said stand down”. With Eddie standing up for his son, things seems to be progressing peacefully as he proposes that he and Dylan handle this without the symbiotes and just talk instead. But of course, it’s never that simple.

Ancient Rivals

Flexo, one of the symbiotes merged to Dylan, has apparently had a different plan all along that was created long ago by a very familiar character. None other than Doctor Doom himself created a plan to have Flexo attack Eddie using his own son’s hand. Dylan shoots Eddie when he’s unprotected by. a symbiote causing him to fall to the ground, unable to heal.

While all this is happening, another plan is coming to light by the hands of Kang the Conqueror involving Red Goblin, AKA Normie Osborn. It turns out this war has been started way farther back than anyone could’ve realized.

I found Venom War #3 to be very surprising given who has been pulling the strings of some of the symbiotes. It was really creative to involve Doom and Kang in what seemed like a very straight through plot. Al Ewing did a masterful job at keeping you on the edge of your seat throughout the comic with so many moving parts. With the amount of moving parts happening, there’s also the large amount of tones throughout the comic like Dylan heartbreakingly crying out to his dad or the confusion of Red Goblin once Kang’s program is activated.

The art in Venom War #3 was excellent, especially when seeing Kang and Doom appear. I like how the artists were able to mesh the characters in and fit the tone of the Venom War run. Another thing the artists did was perfectly illustrate the emotions in the panels. When Dylan is screaming at his dad to get up and heal, you can really feel the desperation and devastation coming from Dylan.

Final Thoughts

This was a really great bit of continuation that added huge factors into the Venom War run. The ending of Venom War #3 makes me really interested to see where this goes. The plot gets more and more compelling, and I’m excited to see what’s next!
