This review was made possible by early screeners for Land of Women. Land of Women premieres with two episodes on June 26th, 2024 on Apple TV+ with new episodes every Wednesday.
Land of Women follows our main character, Gala played by Eva Longoria. Gala has a lavish life, is married, and has a daughter Kate (Victoria Bazua). When she discovers her husband is in debt and can’t repay some dangerous people, her once lavish life is now left in shambles. When they come looking for Gala, she flees. Gala goes and picks up her mother, Julia (Carmen Maura) who’s in a retirement home and her daughter Kate who is at boarding school.
In the show we also meet the farmer, Amat (Santiago Cabrera) as well as the two people after Gala, Hank (Jim Kitson) and Kevin (Amaury Nolasco). First thing I want to point out, is the scenery is so beautiful to where Gala flees to. They go to Spain, which a beautiful place, and immediately known for their harvest and the wine.
I really like the chemistry between Gala, Julia, and Kate. Three generations, who are trying to work together and manage going to Spain. Even though Julia lived there for many years when she was younger, a lot of things have changed. One thing that has not changed: community. It is a really small town where everyone knows everyone, and everyone takes care of each other.
A lot of the series is in Spanish, so be prepared to read subtitles if you are not fluent in Spanish. There are some scenes that are in English, especially if Gala, Julia, and Kate are talking to people who only speak English. Some of the themes in this series is about family, forgiveness, and love. All of them mixed together, makes the perfect formula for an excellent show. I enjoyed spending time with these characters and hope for a season two.
I give this show a 10/10.
