Masters of the Universe: Revolution #2

While the hit Netflix series Masters of the Universe: Revolution, fans are eagerly waiting to find out IF we will ever get more seasons on the small screen. Tim Sheridan, co-writer for the series, has brought it to the paneled pages. It’s not a word-for-word regurgitation but fills in some gaps and expands the tapestry of Eternia.

The Art

The art team is smart, like Roboto, and they are not trying too hard, so wide panels with multiple characters are recognizable. But when you have to show off the fierceness of Hordak or Keldor. It completely pops off the page. One big thing that gets overlooked is backgrounds. Yeah, I know we are here for the story and characters. But they are only as good as the environments you put them in. The gradients of a clear day or night sky contrast with the soot and ash billowing during a battle. Followed by ominous clouds looming, wrap this story in a world you can feel you’re a part of.

The Story

As I said, this isn’t just a rehash of what we saw streaming on screen. Tim Sheridan is world building! Right now, we are in the throws of Hordak and Keldor’s (Skeletor) back story. But by the end of this issue, you see the breadcrumbs for the story we are familiar with from Netflix.

From Castle Greyskull

This book is a perfect “adaptation/continuation/exploration” of the best story from the Masters of the Universe franchise in decades. The art speaks for itself like I said. Having heard the characters on TV, you hear their voices in your head because it’s not forced, but they come with the same tone. That goes to show that everyone involved on this project VERY MUCH understood the assignment.
