In this first issue of the Whisper Queen run, it hits the ground running of revealing that the king is dead. As the reader, we are introduced to Javro, who looks very much like an elf, who has been in the dungeon for many years.
A person who worked closely with the king, knows that someone killed him. They are giving Javro, their most experienced assassin to be out, and find the person who killed the king.
Along the way, Javro is on a quest but bumps into many people from his past, and also people who will help him investigate the king’s death. I like how intense Javro is though, he lays low at some points during reading this first issue. He wears a gigantic Japanese-like sunhat, that protects him from the sun.
Meanwhile, back at the kingdom, the Whisper queen is introduced. It seems like she can see things in the future, as well as make decisions based on what is going on. The whisper queen looks like an older woman as well, needing help with everyday things. When Javro and herself are face to face when he is interrogating someone, a cliffhanger occurs and there is something about the “dark whisper.”
What I really enjoy about this comic is that there is a lot of dialogue, that helps the story move along. Javro seems to make many connections as he is traveling through the cities. There are some maps, that help the reader figure out exactly where Javro is. I can see the world building coming and starting off strong. The art is pretty, it’s pretty unique, with everyone having elf ears. It also gives a great depiction of the action going on in this first issue.
