Star Wars: Mace Windu #1:

This explosive issue takes us back to a galaxy far, far away as Mace Windu, Jedi Master, finds himself racing against time to recover a vast load of coveted Coaxium before it falls into the wrong hangs. We go to new planets and a familiar one as this issue kicks off the run of one of the most beloved Jedi.

The Art:

The team does a lot in this issue. They deliver on taking us back to the Clone Wars era and showing us the beauty of the Jedi Temple in all its glory. They also provide a fantastic panel set showcased in black and white when Mace must use force. Overall, the team has a lot of opportunities to shine as there is more action than words in parts, which allows this story to flow and breathe. Being back in my favorite Star Wars era, I felt at home despite the new faces we were introduced to. The team did a great job making each planet feel their own, immersing you in the experience.

The Writing:

Marc has talent, which he showcases here. He understands Mace’s character and his witty yet assertive demeanor. Every time the words Coaxium are on the page, I cannot help but read them in Hondo’s voice (if you’ve been to Disney you know), which makes this story even more fun. Marc has been dying to get to tell his Star Wars tale and I think he is onto something with this first issue.

Overall:

The team assembled has me excited for this run. This story has a lot of potential and exciting places we can go on this adventure. The Clone Wars era is my favorite, so I will gladly take any tale set during it, and bonus points for it being Mace Windu. I’m going to be adding this to my monthly pull list.

9/10 Overall.
