Spider-Man Brand New Day is crushing the box office records in theaters with an opening weekend total of $927 million.
Moreover, the film introduced new characters and saw a familiar return. It also laid groundwork for Marvel’s future.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR BRAND NEW DAY
The first and most obvious was Sadie Sink’s character, Jean Grey, whom is not our first official mutant in the MCU, however, she is the biggest. At the end we see her on a bus headed to what we can only assume is upstate New York where she will become a student at Xaviers School For the Gifted and setting up the X-Men Saga in the MCU.
Next, Peter truly is his father figure’s son because in the film he created the universal inhibitor chip. If you are familiar with the X-Men at all, then you know there is a power dampening collar used on mutants and his universal chip could be a foreshadow to exactly this.
Jean DeWolff, one of Spider-Man’s closest allies in the comics, makes her debut here in this film with the two having a close relationship. Unfortunately, her death in the comics also sets the stage for Eddie Brock and Venom. Should they choose to go this route, our time with her may be limited.
Cindy Moon, one of Peter’s old classmates returns as a student at Empire State University and of Bruce Banner’s. Fans may know her in the comics as Silk, which begs the question, is she being teased and will we see that come to fruition?
Big potatoes, small potatoes, and explaining why not everything is an Avenger level threat, Helena explains why the New Avengers don’t get involved, a perfect way to bring us back to more solo films and street level issues. Not everything requires a massive team up and I loved how they included this.
Lastly, I thought for sure when Peter and MJ were looking for Jean and then when DODC was trying to track the wavelengths in Jean’s mind, this meant we were getting hints at Cerebro. Whether or not it was or can be is a different discussion, but I couldn’t help but wonder.
