Into Season 2

After the long awaited return of one of the best Marvel projects to date, X-Men 97 comes back with its second season, and boy, did it make its mark. Picking up right where it started off, the X-Men are stuck in two different points in time. Rogue, Nightcrawler, Beast, Magneto, and Professor X are stuck in the past in ancient Egypt. Beast tries his hardest to get the team back home, but comes up short every time. Magneto has made a new friend, a friend that the X-Men are very familiar with; En Sabah Nur, AKA Apocalypse. The X-Men know that Nur ends up being one of their greatest foes, but he doesn’t know what his future has in store for him.

The other team of X-Men are stuck in the future with Mother Askani and Nathan. Jean, Scott, Morph, Logan, and Storm are left with little hope to return home, that is until Forge makes his way to them. Forge and Bishop knew they were the only chance the X-Men had to make it home, so Bishop went to Egypt and Forge reunited with Storm in the future. Without giving too much away, there are many plans at play here amongst the two teams, and they’ll do whatever they can to return to their point in time.

While this was three episode, and each of the X-Men team claimed one episode each, that leaves us with one more. My personal favorite episode. The episode that introduces X-Factor and X-Force. X-Force, being ran by Cable, is on a mission to find the Horseman of Apocalypse. X-Factor, who’s a government sanctioned mutant team, has the task of rounding up X-Men and taking them into custody “for their own good” with the promise that they’ll relocate them. Both team gives us looks at underrated mutants that we just can’t get enough of. Polaris, Havok, Multiple Man, Syren, Wolfsbane, and Strong Guy are the X-Factor’s lineup. Cable, Psylocke, Archangel, and now Jubilee and Sunspot make up the X-Force. Both teams are set in their own ways, which shows a perfect pattern of the age old conflict between Professor Xavier and Magneto and shows that it’s being fought even in the newer generation of mutants.

X-Men 97 season 2 started off with a bang, and did not let up that energy until the end of the third episode. This series has been consistently high in quality with the first season, and it seems like that trend won’t quit with the second. The voice actors from season 1 return to their characters, and feel even more at home with voicing the characters of our childhood.

The stakes are higher than ever as we see a look at quite a few different threats to the X-Men. I can’t know what’s going to happen next, but I promise I will be waiting very anxiously for the next episode.

Overall Grade – 10/10
