Well, it’s now spring break, I mean All-Worlds day, and we finally get to peel back and get some more background on two of our main cast.
Spring breakdown
As most of the kids are going to party, spa, or spend time with Family, Caleb refuses and gets special permission to stay at school. But he has more time to reflect on his lack of communication with Tarima.
You’re getting married whether you like it or not
Darem is kidnapped!! Apparently think is typical in Kioanan culture. And in the entire campus/ship, the only person to witness it was Jay-Den. So we now get a reluctant Klingon as Darem’s Best Man. Because he honorably wanted to make sure his friend was safe. Oh, and apparently he was just getting married, he was marrying up to become the leader of his planet!

This again led to Jay-den having another bout of body about public speaking and walking off, but came back in the nick of time to support Darem. Which led Jay-Den to give a heartfelt speech, so much so that Darem’s new wife forced him to abdicate his throne, because Darem had changed since joining the academy and could not live with the fact that, once again, Darem was choosing his life for others and not himself.
The Genesis Effect
Apparently, our favorite Dad-miral daughter for me was the highlight of the story. She was also adept with computers and hacked her way back into school for the lockdown. WHY: Because she needed to fix her transcript. She “fixed” them to get in because Captain Ake was going to put her into the Captain’s training program.

Caleb just thought this was all fun and games till they hacked their way onto the bridge so she could get to Captain Chair to make a key to get her master file to REALLY fix the situation.
Thankfully, our favorite deadpan prof caught them!
From the Warp Core
Filler filler filler episode. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy getting to know some ideas about these characters, but where is the TREK in this? I’m still looking for it, but it’s just because it takes place on a Starship or another planet that these are just human stories, not space-the-final-frontier stories.
We already know that Jaden is the heart of Starfleet Academy, and the fact that he is still so lowkey brings great honor to all Klingons as a distinct representation of the warrior race.
But I have to give a huge shout-out to Bella Shepherd for her portrayal, now that we finally see the huge, huge hole in her armor with the parental generational trauma and always living in someone else’s shadow. But the fact that she can play someone so well as a con is instrumental to her character; it can really come back, and I hope to see it bite her in the ass at some point.
Showing that Caleb has a softer side is great, and all, but again, this whole episode is feelings, feelings, feelings, feelings. Where’s the “TREK”? Just my opinion.
If I could give this episode 2 reviews, I would give one for the drama and another for THE TREK.
Star Trek Starfleet Academy S1E7 Ko’Zeine gets a 5 out of 10
Like I’ve said, there’s so much interpersonal trauma that we’re losing sight of what Trek can be, in my opinion. Hopefully, they rectify this by the season finale and shore up the hull breaches in season two.
