The Story

The wants of the Incredible Hulk are very simple; he wants to smash. In Hulk: Smash Everything #1, that’s exactly what he wants to do: smash everything. All because of an evil plan of The Leader, the Hulk only has one thing on his mind and, you guessed it, smash everything.

The reason for this diabolical plan isn’t clear, but what is clear is that The Leader means business and will do whatever he can to achieve his plan. This time, it involves Doctor Strange, Wong, and everything that gets in the way of the Hulk. With such a disastrous plan, it’ll take some incredible magic, clever planning, and understanding that things will get smashed in the most ruthless way possible.

The Writing

The only way to describe Hulk: Smash Everything #1 is all gas and no breaks. The energy is high throughout the comic, and keeps your eyes glued to the pages. Ryan North does a fantastic job at keeping the story exciting while securing the feeling of mystery that looms over the comic. I’m not sure what to expect in the next issue, but I know I’ll be anxiously waiting for it to drop.

The Art

Vincenzo Carratú, Federico Blee, and Joe Caramagna matched the tone incredibly well, perfectly illustrating the high energy throughout the comic. Vincenzo absolutely nails the classic Hulk comics energy while mixing it with beautiful drawings that are detailed perfectly. Federico Blee always brings the heat when he’s lending his coloring talents, and this is no exception. Throughout the comic, you’ll see the vibrancy of the characters contrast with the more muted backgrounds, which results in the characters practically jumping off the page. Joe Caramagna gives so much power to the words of the characters, allowing you to hear Doctor Strange’s exasperated voice or Hulk’s aggressive declaration to smash everything.

Final Thoughts

If you’re a Hulk fan, then this comic is for you. Along with the Hulk smashing everything, the creative team smashed through my expectations. Absolute fire all the way through.
