Hazbin Hotel Season 2 is RAISING HELL!!

Published:

VivziePop & Amazon Prime is doing it again; that’s right, Hazbin Hotel is still raising hell, and we’re only four episodes in. Let’s break down episodes 3 and 4 (if you are reading this, spoiler and LANGUAGE WARNING)

Episode 3: Behind Closed Doors

Episode three takes place immediately after episode one, so it’s literally picking up right where Emily left off with Charlie. Charlie’s naivete, emotions, and excitement led her to decide that at that point, it was the perfect opportunity to reach out to Voxtech and showcase that redemption is possible.

Vox and Velvet arrive at the hotel and immediately do what they do best: controlling the media and spinning Charlie in a poor light. Nothing like an open-handed fist to start your interview. Speaking of which, Alastor dips as soon as he sees the vees.

Charlie then pushes Angel Dust to undergo redemption, as she believes she has unlocked it with Pentious being the guide. Unfortunately, the way to redemption is not as easy as you might think. In fact, Charlie risks Husk’s life in a Dick Dastardly-type scheme that Vox makes even more lethal. As a result, Angel almost sacrifices his life to save Husk, which is going to massively interfere with their friendship and whatever kind of relationship we think this might be.

In a complete tabloid-esque turn, Vox blabs about Angel’s sin. Knowingly upset, he tells Charlie off and goes to find comfort in Cherry (not that kind). Cherry then replies that she’s staying at the hotel.

Episode 4: It’s a Deal

The machinations of the radio demon are starting to come to fruition. Unfortunately, he has to go back to square one, to how he originally got his deal. We come to find out that as a human, he made a deal with the devil, well, technically with Rosie the Cannibal. Plus, his hilarious and tragic human ending, lol!

Charlie’s already trying to backstep from her original screwup with Vox by going back on VoxTV, but this time LIVE with Katie Killjoy, and unfortunately, it all blows up in her face again. Why tabloid news?

After being brushed off by Rosie, Alistair finally comes up with a plan that even surprises himself, and he calls out the Vox, Velvet, and Valentino, all while Charlie’s still alive on the air.

Niffty immediately goes into fight mode with her little legs, runs back to the hotel, and hijacks Husk to both come to Alastor’s aid. What a fantastic fight all around! Alastor waves the flag at the right moment to save both Husk and Niffty by making a deal with Vox. With one stipulation not to lay a finger on Charlie, he will become his captive…

What the HELL about the music?!

The five songs in these two particular episodes are very much cut right down the middle. Both Charlie’s and Rosie’s songs were a little too sing-songy and really took you out of the episode, go get a beverage kind.

Niffty finally gets her time to shine, and boy, does she shine. She cuts like a knife, turning into a magical girl, with subtitles. It was something I did not see coming at all, and it brought you sheer, unadulterated joy. The look on my face of just what am I watching with dimples aplenty, both questioning and loving it at the same time!

I did say that Rosie’s song took me out of it, but when Vox did a reprise of it with the tonal shift that came at the end, you realize the severity of the situation, completely changing from a very sing-songy 20s melody to a harsh electric half time dubstep at the end, reminding you who the villain of this season is, VINCENT!!

By far the highlight of these two episodes was Cherry Bomb and Sir Pentious. Knowing that Cherry finally decided to stay in the last episode adds emotional weight to this song, especially understanding that Pentious sacrificed himself for her. It’s fascinating to see her dealing with this emotional weight. She’s ready to blow!

The only way to describe Cherry bomb and Pentious’ song PISS (a love song) is Peter Cetera and Lita Ford wrote a bitchin’ 80s duet!

Behind Closed Doors: 8.5 out of 10

The way that the Vees are spinning the truth for Charlie is interesting to watch. More so, watching the ringer that Angel was put through, not just to try to get redemption, but with Vox giving away his secret and watching the whatever-ship with Husk is heavy to say the least.

It’s a Deal: 9.9 out of 10

Like I said the only thing that really took me out of this episode where those two particular songs everything else in this episode was perfect to get to get the back stories on several characters The battle between you know the VS and Alistair Husk and Nifty all was just amazing the action the excitement this special effects the magic it had everything that I wanted out in Episode plus a bitchin’ duet!
