The Peacemaker finale for season 2 just dropped on HBO Max. Matt & Lauren have taken turns reviewing the episodes each week. However, a season that has been so epically awesome, warranted a team up review for the finale.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
With such an amazing season filled with action, mystery, heart, and so much character development I had no clue how they would wrap it all up in one episode. Well they didn’t. However, if ever there was a more enjoyable tease, I have yet to experience it.

Last Seen on Peacemaker
Episode 7 ended with a tragic and unexpected turn of events. Peacemaker found some peace in this other world where he felt welcome with open arms. However, as quick as he fell in love with this other world, he fell faster out of it. The second he realized he was surrounded by Nazis he wasted no time at all dumping no pants wearing Hartcourt (who he was never in love with), and blasting himself and the “real” Harcourt out of there.
As everyone realizes they’re in a world where Hitler won and everyone’s white and straight (or pretending to be), they can’t escape quick enough. Once everyone reconvenes at NOT White Dragon’s house the timing is not the best. As we learn their Auggie is somehow not only not a Nazi, but also willing to listen to reason, a double Vigilante team up kills him. Auggie was trying to calm down Keith who has learned this Chris is not his brother, and watching his dad murdered in front him, was not so helpful.
Keith attacks Chris. Chris’ friends and Eagly don’t hesitate to stop Keith and save their Chris. However, he can’t bare to watch his brother die again. He stops them, and they flee to their world. Before shutting the door behind them, Hartcourt goes to kill Keith to protect her Chris. She hesitates too long, and the door is kicked shut. The 11th Street Kids all back together again in their world come face to face with Rick Flag Sr., and Peacemaker turns himself in, and hands over the quantum unfolding chamber.

“Full Nelson”
With the ending of episode 7, I was certain Keith would be the focus. I could not have been more wrong. As Rick Flagg Sr., and his A.R.G.U.S. team (complete with Hartcourt & Economos) venture off to find more worlds, the motive behind it all was apparently BS. Flagg Sr. doesn’t want to stop another Metropolis event, or find new resources to save our dying planet. He’s looking for a metahuman prison, and he found one.
As each of our 11th Street Kids has their own time to shine moment, in the end they come together. It’s a beautiful moment that still feels very Peacemaker. It also calls out all the problems they’ve gone through not just in season 1, but also in The Suicide Squad. Weirdly the glue that brought them together was Flagg Sr.’s NOT girlfriend.
One second we see our team make up, and then we cut to our happy ending. Complete with the 11th Street Kids bringing in new members, and opening their own business: Checkmate, making the world a better place.
Then we go back in time… Flag Sr., throws Peacemaker into his prison, Salvation. He’s the forced “volunteer” guinea pig to test out the new environment. Which has some monster sound effects. How he got out, we don’t know. Will Fleury ever overcome his bird blindness? We also don’t know that. BUT, at least we know Economos got that Eagly validation he so deserved.

Overall Grade: 8.5/10
Lauren 8/10: The finale to what has been amazing episode after amazing episode just left us with essentially a huge tease. A tease can still be enjoyable, but damn that antica….pation. I feel weirdly satisfied but still frustrated. James Gunn has said this season will set up the next Superman movie, Man of Tomorrow. Which is set to come out July 2027. Until then we just “keep on keepin’ on.”
Matt 9/10: As season 2 of Peacemaker wraps up we’re left with a massive cliffhanger and needing season 3 and Man of Tomorrow asap. James Gunn beautifully created a journey centered around self discovery and creating your own family. John Cena, Danielle Brooks, and Jennifer Holland all deserve an Emmy for the range of raw emotions they showed throughout.
This show proved you don’t need gigantic action sequences to have the audience in a grip and I can’t believe we’re getting the salvation story line! James Gunn built the foundation for this DC Universe and I cannot wait to get what’s next!
PEACEMAKER… What a Season
There is so much more to say about the season as a whole. However, Matt and I still need to process some of these thoughts. What we can definitely say is we both absolutely loved every moment. What James Gunn has done with Superman and Peacemaker, has been beautiful. It’s been amazing storytelling while being so off the wall bizarre, and incredibly human at the same time. With a sprinkle of raunchy.
Now we wait, and analyze, and predict, and read comics until July 2027. Or just focus on Supergirl coming out next Summer. Until next time… PEACE! At any cost.
