Theme Music by T. Marie Vandelly – A Book Review

Published:

It’s that time of year when nothing beats your favorite fall beverage, and a spooky book on the couch. I kicked off October this year with a horror book called, Theme Music. Below is my spoiler free description and thoughts.

The Story for ‘Theme Music’

Since the age of one, Dixie has been raised by her Aunt and Uncle. This was all due to her father going insane, and murdering her mother and three brothers with an axe. Followed by slitting his own throat. All in the kitchen of their family home. While Dixie has no memory of this horrific day it still defines who she is and follows her wherever she goes. Now as an adult she learns her childhood home is for sale. Curiosity gets the best of her, and she ends up moving in.

As if living in a house that her family was butchered in wasn’t enough, she begins to dig up the past. In both furniture, old boxes, and the criminal case file. While going through everything, she never feels quite alone in the house. As she learns more about the day her father lost it, the more confusing it all feels and seems. Every question answered, leaves more questions unanswered. However, in the end all her questions are answered.

Overall Grade: 9/10

It’s not everyday you start a book that instantly sucks you in and keeps you entertained until the last page. Theme Music did that for me. Dixie at times is absolutely insane, and selfish, and there many times I had no idea which direction the story was taking me. However, in the end it all unwrapped insanely beautiful. It had me going back through scenes in the book, and looking at it differently.

Mystery, the supernatural, family drama, twists and turns, and so much more. If you’re looking for an engaging book to kick of spooky season, I can’t recommend Theme Music enough.
