We got new details for Critical Role’s upcoming 4th Campaign.
Now, what we knew before the latest news dropped, was who gonna be the campaign’s DM. The night of the Gen Con live show, we did find out that Dimension 20 and Worlds Beyond Number DM Brennan Lee Mulligan will be DMing the next campaign:
Now we have found out more info about what to expect with the campaign. Critical Role posted a 16-minute video detailing everything:
And that starts with the game system that will be used. We found out that the 2024 version of Dungeons & Dragons will be the campaign’s gaming system. The internet has been wondering and speculating about whether the 2024 version of D&D or Darrington Press’ Daggerheart was going to be used.
The style of play was also revealed, and this coming campaign will be a West Marches-style campaign. So use the iconic tales of both The Lord Of The Rings and Games Of Thrones as the perfect examples for this. Matt and Brennan did a Live Q&A the night of the campaign announcement, and they explained the campaign’s style there:
We also learned the names of our 3 adventuring groups. Those names are:
- The Valiant Soldiers
- The Vigorous Seekers
- The Veiled Schemers
A slight campaign description was also revealed:
“Hero to many. Enemy to some. When Thjazi Fang is marked for execution, various figures from across his remarkable life unite to uncover the truth behind his grim fate. In a land still suffering from the fallout of dead gods and living in the shadow of a tumultuous rebellion, these disparate people will come together across the fractured world of Aramán and connect in ways they never imagined.
As hope and victory fade, a question hangs over Aramán: without the Gods, what great deeds now fall to us? And who, or what, shall grab their crown for themselves?”
We also learned that the first 4 episodes of the campaign will be the Overture episodes. These will be used to set up the story and introduce all of the characters.

The full cast was also revealed, and the list is pretty giant:
- Matt Mercer
- Laura Baliey
- Marisha Ray
- Travis Willingham
- Sam Riegel
- Liam O’Brien
- Ashley Johnson
- Taliesin Jaffe
