Peacemaker is back with season 2 on HBO Max. Episode 1 of season 2 kicked off with a hell of a bang, a hell of a kill, and an all new dance number. It was everything we wanted, and nothing of what we expected. Episode 2 continues with hilarious yet emotional scenes.
Check out Matt’s review for Episode ONE. Together we make up the podcast ‘Hops GEEK News’ and we’ll be taking turns writing our PEACEMAKER reviews.
Warning this review has spoilers for episode 1 of season 2. However, episode 2 is safer than a target of Peacemaker’s when his gun doesn’t have the dove of peace on it.
The Story for PEACEMAKER Season 2 Episode 2
We kick off with a flashback giving us more insight into the intentions of A.R.G.U.S. this season, and what led them there. A new addition to this team keeping tabs on Peacemaker, is Tim Meadows‘ character, Fluery. As someone who grew up watching him on Saturday Night Live, you definitely get some Ladies Man peaking through. Every scene he was in, was hilarious, all while showcasing a disability I was never aware. It’s a disability that just might affect dozens of people, or just him.

As A.R.G.U.S. continues their witch hunt, Peacemaker is dealing physically and emotionally with self defensively killing himself. Or another version of himself. These emotions just seem to further the feelings he was already dealing with: killing his own father, and blaming himself for his brother. You see him grieve in episode one and two. Not just for those he lost, but for a life he now sees he could have had, that he never will. We then wrap up with a fun reunion. One filled with comradery, Bud Light, suppressed emotions, and a drunk text.

Overall Grade: 9.5/10
Another Peacemaker episode that made me laugh, cringe, and then go awww. James Gunn has truly mastered the perfect balance of hilarity, violence, raunchiness, and emotion. All delivered perfectly by the cast, and especially by John Cena. Whether you can see John Cena or not (I heard James Gunn loves those jokes), you can feel the emotions he’s conveying.
Christopher Smith, AKA Peacemaker, experienced nothing by toxic parenting growing up. Yet, despite it all he still believes in peace, and forgiveness. The forgiveness being evidenced by his relationship with Leota Adebayo. This season so far is really showing how far he can be pushed before he breaks. He’s seen a trace of what his life could have been like without being raised to believe he was worthless.
All in all this episode lived up to the exact awesomeness we have come to expect from the guy who made Rocket Racoon a household name.
