Peacemaker: What’s Canon In This Big World?

When  James Gunn said that both Superman (2025) and Peacemaker season two will help explain things, you believe him.

Creature Commandos was the first project that set off Gunn’s vision, and then Superman connected the dots. Each set of characters he was quickly building (for example, Rick Flag Sr. being in both films) helps make a bigger map for the DCU. Gunn’s Suicide Squad is also cannon due to Peacemaker killing Rick Flag Jr.(Joel Kinnaman), and that is why Rick Flag Sr (Frank Grillo). It is doing major surveillance on Peacemaker in the second season. 

Some other things that help set this universe off are that there are cameos from Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), and Hawkgirl (Isabel Merced). They all appeared in Superman, which helps the audience connect everything. Then it gets a little bit more interesting. In one scene in Peacemaker season two, James Gunn has Peacemaker (John Cena) holding Emilia Hartcourt (Jennifer Holland). In front of him as he’s walking, the old version involved some characters from the DCEU. In the new version, they have all the characters from Superman, and also Supergirl (Milly Alcock) and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi). I also wonder why he wasn’t in the episode where the two Justice Gang members were interviewing Peacemaker.

The artificial pocket universe also comes into play, as Peacemaker realizes that there is one. He meets an alternate version of himself as to where Peacemaker’s brother is alive, and so is his dad. Pictures that are scattered across the alternate house, of him being happy. He also broke up with Hartcourt in this other universe. The universe showed up in Superman, as Mr. Terrific and Lois Lane go and save Superman from this, and the kryptonite that was hurting him. All of this information helps move the canon forward. It can get a little tricky, because you really have to pay attention to the particulars of the canon. Also it helps when James Gunn goes and talks about it, he details what is canon and what is not.

I cannot wait to see where Peacemaker goes off to, and hopefully, it will be an amazing season. I hope to see the Justice Gang more in action and figure out what Rick Flag Sr. is going to do with Peacemaker. I can only hope for good information that will help understand more of what James Gunn intends to do with the DCU.
