All-New Venom #6
Our old newsman Robbie has discovered who is Venom’s new host – MJ – and our longtime heroine has a lot of explaining to do.
In All-New Venom #6, there’s not a lot of action, but it’s not necessary as the reader is dying to know how MJ became the new Venom.
And the story doesn’t disappoint, as both of their lives hang in the balance!
Creative Team:
Writer: Al Ewing
Artist: Carlos Gomez
Color Artist: Frank D’Armata
Letters: VC’s Clayton Cowles
Publisher: Marvel Entertainment
The Art:
Gomez really makes this issue sing, as it has a light-heartedness to it, complimenting a very up and down story being told from both MJ and Venom.
As we find out the backstory of how Venom and MJ united, the art is crucial to explain how they are bonded and why they cannot be separated.
The story doesn’t work here if the art doesn’t help to move the story along. Gomez does an amazing job and really shows the emotion that everyone in the room hearing the story for the first time can feel!
ALL-NEW VENOM 1 – Who Is Venom??
The Writing:
Al Ewing is another one of Marvel’s current legends, doing what he does best, telling a heartfelt and chilling story.
We now know that Venom bonded with MJ not to just save his life, but hers as well.
For all the big Venom fans out there, this is another evolution of the anti-hero, where this alien just risked his freedom to save Spider-Man’s longtime friend, lover and ally!
It’s a really great, short story that ends with a cliffhanger and a new mission! Basically expect next week’s issue to be explosive!
Overall Grade: 8.5/10
There’s been a lot of buzz, both good and bad online, about MJ becoming the new Venom, but I’m really excited to see where this goes and how it affects Venom for years to come. I believe he’s going to come through this a changed symbiote and could spark the dawn of a new anti-hero altogether.
