Absolute Wonder Woman #6: Diana is before Hades in his mighty throne room in a standoff that would have normal beings shaking. Diana however, is no normal being as we are shown more from her trials and plights to craft her weapons and forge her path forward. But, is Hades himself too much for our worthy Princess and what tricks does the God of the Underworld have up his sleeve?

*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The Story:
Kelly Thompson is absolutely crushing this story and this issue may be her finest work yet. The story seems simple which is Diana before Hades and yet it is through even simple back and forth conversation that this story progresses so interestingly. We get more from Diana’s past and show her trials with Prometheus and then how she was able to battle the Basilisk. These tales are crafting depth and showcasing the power of Diana.
When it comes to the story at hand with Hades, Kelly shows off the battle of wits between the two by having Diana offload her weapons in a funny action film montage. She then leaves us off on a large cliffhanger that stuns even our mightiest warrior foreshadowing something even larger ahead.
The Art:
Mattia is doing stellar work with the various adventures we have taken on in this issue. I love the montage scene we get and the various lassos and weapons Mattia has drawn and colored for Diana. When it comes to Prometheus and the Basilisk the stark contrast in how Diana stacks up to them and how much larger than life Prometheus is for example is excellent work. When she is taking blood from Prometheus the colors and imagery was burned into my mind and stood out with this issue as well as the emotions that are conveyed on Diana’s face.
Becca is continuing to letter this run extremely well. The back and forth between Hades and Diana are lettered, leaving the audience to hear the difference in tones and tongues. When it comes to the cover Hayden and Jordie bring about intrigue with the red lasso against a dark background which delivers a rather ominous tone to kick us off.
Overall Grade: 9.7/10
