Captain Planet Returns in a Thrilling New Comic Series This April

Get ready, Planeteers! The iconic eco-warrior, Captain Planet, is making a powerful comeback in a brand-new comic series from Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. Launching just in time for Earth Day on April 23, superstar writer David Pepose (Space Ghost, Cable) and acclaimed artist Eman Casallos (Vampirella, Pathfinder) are set to breathe new life into the beloved 1990s hero.

The Story So Far

Five young Planeteers from around the globe are chosen by Gaia, the High Priestess of Earth, to wield elemental rings that represent Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart. Together, they form humanity’s last line of defense against environmental destruction, with the power to summon Captain Planet, Earth’s ultimate protector.

This series dives deep into the origins and challenges of the Planeteers as they grapple with their powers and personal dynamics. When Gaia is kidnapped by the ruthless Lucian Plunder, the young heroes face their first real test — a high-stakes battle for the planet’s future.

A Modern Spin on a Classic Hero

David Pepose, a lifelong fan of Captain Planet, is determined to deliver a series that balances nostalgia with a fresh perspective. Fans of the original cartoon will find plenty of familiar elements, including iconic villains and heartfelt eco-justice themes. At the same time, Pepose’s storytelling aims to resonate with today’s readers by tackling modern environmental issues and creating relatable character arcs for each Planeteer.

“Every comic creator has a white whale, and for me, it’s always been Captain Planet,” Pepose shares. “This series is my chance to honor the past while giving fans something exciting and new to love.”

Eman Casallos brings dynamic energy to the pages with his bold, detailed artwork. The comic’s first issue will feature a range of stunning variant covers, including contributions from renowned artists Mark Spears, Christian Ward, Ben Oliver, and a connecting six-part series by Jae Lee and June Chung.

In line with Captain Planet’s eco-conscious message, Dynamite will print the series on 70% recycled paper — a commitment to sustainability that fans can feel good about supporting.

When and Where to Get It

Captain Planet #1 will debut in comic shops and on digital platforms like Comixology, Kindle, and Google Play this April. Fans are encouraged to preorder through their local comic book stores to ensure they don’t miss out on this historic release.

Mark your calendars for April 23 and join the Planeteers for an unforgettable adventure that celebrates Earth and the power of teamwork.
