Power Sharing

Betsy Braddock and Rachel Summers are a power couple, and I mean that in every sense of the words. Rachel has been struggling with having too much power that she can’t regulate it all, so Betsy has been working as her power storage in a sense. After having so much going on, while dealing with Rachel’s power issues, some relaxation is very needed. Betsy built a private mindscape for the both of them that acts as Rachel’s happy place.

While the heroes are relaxing in the mindscape that Betsy created, they’re attacked by the one who calls herself La Diabla. If you’ll recall in X-Force #6, this same villain is the one that attacked Forge and Sage in Forge’s VR, so it’s likely she has something to do with the fractures the X-Force has been dealing with. La Diabla has her eyes set on Rachel in this instance, but still mentions Forge, so it seems he could be her reasoning for all of the attacks.

The Writing

Geoffrey Thorne does a great job at catching you off guard and keeping you on the edge of your seat throughout X-Force #7. I really have appreciated how throughout this run, you really can’t guess what’s going to happen next. Thorne is an expert at keeping you on your toes throughout X-Force #7. With the attack on Rachel and Betsy, the tone change was dramatic and handled really well and it felt like a very smooth transition.

Something I do really love about the comic is how well Rachel and Betsy’s love is shown in the pages. You can tell how much they truly care for each other, and how they have wonderful chemistry as characters.

The Art

Jim Towe and Erick Arciniega really showcased their talents in this one as every fight scene was absolutely stunning. The wide range of bright colors with the dark details really brought the situations to life, while adding so much depth to the story. That paired with Joe Caramagna’s letters, which packs a punch to the dialogue, creates a feast for the eyes.

Final Thoughts

I really enjoy how this run is surrounded by mystery and we’re starting to get some idea as to who’s involved with all the fractures. It’s also nice to see some of these installments are more focused on individual team members rather than all about the team itself. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
