In my alternate timeline, I would have been a fencer. This is a brand new series that follows a group of fencers. They are making their way to the top, by their coach who knows how to win. It alternates between point of views for all the characters. There is Nick, Seiji, Marcus and Kyle. They all seem to be experts in the sport, and this tournament that is happening is very important.
I really like the dynamic especially that one of the teams has with their coach. The coach is driven to win, but is very strategic as to how her team will win. I also like that she was a woman of color, and they displayed her natural hair. This first issue is very short, with really just focusing on the competitions.
In this issue there is also a wonderful sense of the art. It looks very cartoonish, which I feel is what the artist wanted. I also enjoy that everyone has some sense of individuality when it comes to their features. I also like to mention that they use a lot of fencing terminology, which I enjoy. These matches are very intense, and important for them to advance to the championship matches. I’m really hoping that the team gets it together, and is able to win at the end of the day.
I give this a 8.5/10.
