Star Trek Lower Decks: Of God and Angles

Star Trek: Lower Deck is now in the back half of this 5 season journey. As Mariner tries to find a kindred soul, she instead finds a demigod and a Romeo and Juliet romance written in Geometry.

Because I NEED to be .327% Cooler!

Boilmer is going on and on this season trying to be something that he’s not, Himself! Constantly comparing himself to the Alternate Universe three times, acting Captian Boimler. This leads him down a hilarious side story of trying to get on Dr T’Ana.

Are You a God?!

Ensign Olly has been bumped from ship to ship, and the Cerritos is more than likely her last chance. What’s the problem, you ask? Her ancestor is Zues, yes Zues, that from the TOS episode “Who Mourns for Adonais.” She has some abilities, but she can’t always control them. She has an impulsive attitude and lacks military bearing.

Circle gets the Square

The Cerritos, being a secondary ship, helps with peace talks between 2 races of Phontonic races, both Cubes and the other Spheres. Every little trope you can think of between the two species ensues. Including, as I alluded to, a torrid love affair that led to a new 3rd species.

From the UPPER DECKS

As I said, we are in the back half of the final season. With only 4 seasons left, this feels like a filler episode. While great for a ton of old-school nods, it was unnecessary to some degree. You don’t have to be Dixon Hill to figure out this was an amalgam of loose storylines thrown together.

The Bearded Boilmer storyline is getting redundant and I hope that our Boims having the Red P.A.A.D. will lead to some catastrophe series finale at this point. I’m glad to see Mariner step up and finally embrace leadership in her own style. It fits her character to a tee.

The callbacks in Lower Decks are always a nice breath of fresh air, but during the Shape War third act, I would have loved to see the Sequoia get destroyed again, to Rutherfords’ delight.

Star Trek Lower Decks: Of Gods and Angles Gets a 7.5 out of 10
