Things aren’t looking good for the Spider-Society

With almost all of the Spider-Heroes locked up, the couple that remain are Weapon VIII, Madame Web, and Miguel. The Sinister Squadron now has the Web of Life and Destiny, which certainly adds complications to the Spider-Society stopping the evil villains and keeping their universes safe. Miguel escaped with Madame Web to his future, but Anya and her team of the Spider-Society was captured by the Sinister Squadron. And who is it playing team leader of the Sinister Squadron? None other than Aunt May.

Anya’s team is reconnected with Miles and Gwen at the Sinister Squadron’s lair. Once all the Spider-Heroes have brushed themselves off from the attack of the Squadron, they put their heads together and form a plan. But while that’s happening, Anya and Hobie share an intimate moment when Anya is at her lowest. As the team leader, she feels she failed her friends and failed her role. It was heartwarming to see Hobie comfort her, even in the time of danger.

The only one left able to help the captured Spider-People is Weapon XIII, who is angry and ready to fight. It was great to see him rise to the occasion to help save his friends, and run straight into danger to do what he can to help them. While Weapon XIII is fighting the good fight, the Spider-Society has formed a plan to get themselves out. Now they have to fight the Sinister Squadron, who has the Web of Life and Destiny on their side.

The Writing

Spider-Society #3 is nonstop action from the beginning to end, even with the heartwarming moments leaving your heart racing. Something I really appreciate that Alex Segura does is writes the story while giving each Spider-Society member their own spotlight. With so many strong characters, it’s easy for the characters to blend together and the story to end up messy. But this isn’t the case for Spider-Society. Each character is given their own proper time to shine, and are able to showcase their talents and personality clearly.

The Art

The artwork continues to impress in Spider-Society #3. The vibrant colors juxtaposed with the darker backgrounds really make each panel pop. Each member of the Spider-Society looks absolutely gorgeous in their own right. Something I really loved was the look of the Web of Life and Destiny towards the end. With the amount of detail that’s used in each piece of the Web, it really is beautiful to see when it’s combined with the bright blues and the reds of the Spider-Men.
