The Wolf Clan Revealed in LEGO Shatterspin

The mysterious and powerful Lycan King has knocked Garmadon out leaving the 5 young warriors to escape on their own with Garmadon in tow. We get to see these young warriors in action and they’re very capable and brave!

When all of them get stuck in a cave in, Garmadon awakens to find the situation dire. As he tries his best to clear the rubble, something takes over, instilling the art of Shatterspin in his mind. With that ancient power clearing the rule is no problem!

What happened in issue 1? Find out here!

Now free of danger for the moment they all travel to Mama Mawa, a wise old guardian of the young warriors. It’s here that we as the reader get some background on The Wyldness and the powerful wolf clan that once reigned. If your a fan of lore as I am, then this will blow you away!

Wonderful Character Development from LEGO Shatterspin

Vuong builds a unique cast of characters that work well as a team. I love the way he plays with the strengths and weaknesses of each of them. They stand out and and yet form a cohesive unit because they act as family. When they all go to Mama Mawa it couldn’t be more clear how young and innocent these kids are.

The whole history of the Wolf Clan was amazing. We get a really in-depth flashback into the rise and fall of one of the most dominant Ninjago clans. Everything was laid out before us, A mysterious villain, answers to a mystical puzzle, and secrets including the identity of the Lycan King. All of this was done with excellent pacing and inciting panel layouts.

The Ancient Art of LEGO Shatterspin

The artwork in LEGO Shatterspin stays consistence with issue one. We have this playful toy series that is taken to a more serious tone via the artwork and story. Everything feels so reminiscent of Kung Fu movies. Not only that, the designs of the Wolf Clan and The Lycan King are out of this world! I feel immersed and suspension of belief is easier than would be expected for a LEGO title.

Everything Points to 9/10

I really can’t say enough goo things about this issue. The action is fun and fluid as well as the fascinating lore of the Wolf Clan. The characters shine in this one as the 5 young warriors reveal a little more about themselves. Garmadon grows in terms of power and his arrogance begins to shine through. The art hits a high note with Wolf Clan and Lycan King designs. A LEGO title may not be something an adult is expecting to enjoy, but I can tell you that it hits the sweet spot for fans of all ages!
